Breeding

In late spring 2015 Templeton Farms welcomed the first 3 foals in our fledgling dressage horse breeding program.  As other breeders we are sure to select quality stallions.  More uniquely, however, we put extra emphasis on the quality of the mares.  Our foundation mares, Flaming Heart and Honeymoon, come from the highly successful stallions Florestan I and Hotline.  This year we have added a Brentano II mare Batida de Coco as well as another Florestan I named Florenciana.

We had a lot of help with our first crop of foals. Frank Luetz www.art-of-driving.com provided great insight with the selection of stallions, and our veterinarian David Eckstein spent many late hours with us to inseminate the mares. The 2015 foals are all fillies: Rhoda, Dolce Flame and Roccia Luna. We plan to raise the fillies on grass pasture at the farm until they are 3, when we will put them under saddle before breeding.

Flaming Heart aka “Flame”Flaming Heart aka “Flame”

Flaming Heart

Flaming Heart aka “Flame” was a show mare until we bred her in 2014. She is registered Westphalian but an Elite Oldenburg mare thanks to her 2 premium foals in 2015, Rhoda and Dolce Flame.  Until her retirement to be a brood mare she competed successfully through Prix St George.

Honeymoon aka Honey

Honeymoon

Honeymoon aka “Honey” is currently training Prix St George with well-known Grand Prix Dressage Trainer Laurie Falvo.  We hope she will make her PSG debut in the 2015-2016 show year.  Honey is registered Hanoverian and already a proven broodmare, with two foals in Holland.  In 2015 Templeton Farms Equestrian welcomed Honey’s first foal; we expect another arrival 2016.
